Most implant conversations start with one of four situations. We help you think through the real trade-offs.

A single missing tooth

An implant-supported crown is usually the most durable, longest-lasting way to replace a missing tooth, and it does not require altering the teeth on either side.

A failing tooth that cannot be saved

When a tooth is cracked below the gum, severely decayed, or has failed root canal treatment, replacing it with an implant restoration is often a better long-term answer than another patch.

Multiple missing teeth in a row

Two or more adjacent missing teeth can sometimes be replaced with an implant-supported bridge: fewer fixtures, similar durability.

An existing denture that does not fit

What an implant restoration includes

Repairs and recementing

Existing implant restorations sometimes loosen at the abutment or chip at the crown. Most repairs are quick.

Plan and refer

Dr. D'Addio evaluates whether an implant is right for you and refers placement to a trusted oral surgeon. We coordinate the planning.

Heal and integrate

After placement, the implant fuses to your bone over 3 to 6 months. You may wear a temporary tooth during this time.

Restore and return

Once the implant is integrated, Dunning takes the impression, fits the abutment, and places the final crown, bridge, or denture. We see you for follow-up at your regular preventive visits.

Does Dunning place the implant or just restore it?

Dunning Family Dental restores dental implants, meaning we make and place the crown, bridge, or denture that sits on top of an implant fixture after the fixture has been surgically placed and healed. The surgical placement of the titanium implant in the bone itself is referred to a trusted local oral surgeon. Dr. D'Addio coordinates the referral, the imaging, and the restorative planning so that the oral surgeon and the restorative team are working from the same plan from the start. You come back to Dunning for the final crown, periodic exams, and any follow-up.

How long does the whole process take?

From the first conversation to the final restoration, plan on 4 to 8 months. The actual chair time is small; most of the timeline is healing while the implant integrates with your bone.

How long does an implant restoration last?

The implant fixture itself often lasts a lifetime when cared for. The crown, bridge, or denture on top typically lasts 10 to 20 years and is replaceable without disturbing the implant underneath.

Is an implant worth it compared to a bridge?

Usually, yes, when you are medically and structurally a good candidate. Implants do not require altering neighboring teeth (a bridge does), and they last longer on average. The decision depends on your specific situation, bone, and budget. We walk through it before any commitment.

How much does it cost?

Total cost varies by what is being replaced and who is placing the implant. The restoration portion at Dunning is comparable to a crown of similar complexity. The surgical placement is billed by the oral surgeon. We give you a written estimate before any work begins.

Will insurance cover any of this?
