Insurance and payment

Out of network. Clear about what happens next.

Dunning Family Dental is not in-network with dental insurance plans. We submit claims as a courtesy to most carriers. You pay the practice at the visit, we file the claim, and your insurance company makes the final benefit determination and sends reimbursement directly to you.

Insurance and payment transparency at Dunning Family Dental.

The mechanics, said before the visit.

Before treatment beyond routine care, you receive a written estimate. You pay the practice at the visit. Your insurer decides the final reimbursement.

Out of network

How it works

The billing flow, step by step.

Five practical things to know before your first visit.

We are out of network

Dunning Family Dental does not participate in any insurance plan. Your visit is billed at the practice fee.

You pay the practice at the visit

Payment is due at checkout. Card, check, cash, HSA/FSA card, or CareCredit are accepted.

We submit the claim for you

We file the claim with your insurance company as a courtesy for most carriers.

Your insurer decides the benefit

The insurance company reviews the claim, applies your plan's rules, and sends reimbursement directly to you.

Medicaid and Fidelis are not accepted

If Medicaid or Fidelis are your only benefits, call and we will point you to a local option that accepts them.

Payment flow

What a typical visit looks like on paper.

The flow is deliberately transparent. You know the number before treatment starts. The insurance reimbursement comes to you, not to us.

  1. 1

    Estimate before treatment

Before any work beyond a basic exam or cleaning, the front desk looks up your plan and gives you a written estimate that shows the practice fee and the expected reimbursement. Final benefit determination is made by your insurer.

  2. 2

    Pay at the visit

At checkout, you pay the practice fee for services performed. Card, check, cash, HSA/FSA card, or CareCredit are accepted.

  3. 3

    Insurance reimburses you

We file the claim after your visit. Your insurance company processes the claim on their own schedule and sends the reimbursement directly to you.

Why we are out of network

The rationale, said plainly.

Dunning is out of network so the practice can preserve the time and continuity that careful family dentistry requires. Being out of network does not mean patients cannot use benefits. Many do. The difference is that reimbursement comes to the patient directly after the insurer processes the claim.

Talk through your plan

CareCredit is accepted

CareCredit is third-party financing that can spread larger treatment across monthly payments. Approval, terms, and any promotional financing conditions are set by CareCredit.

No Medicaid or Fidelis

If Medicaid or Fidelis are your only benefits, call the office and the front desk can point you to a local practice that accepts them.

Common insurance questions

Practical answers, plainly written.

Do you submit claims to my insurance?
Yes, we submit claims to most carriers as a courtesy. Medicaid and Fidelis are not accepted. Reimbursement is decided by your specific plan. Call 518-842-3220 with your plan details for a realistic estimate before treatment.
Do I pay you, or does insurance pay you?
You pay the practice at the visit. Your insurance company reviews the claim and sends reimbursement directly to you on their own schedule. Dunning does not hold your payment while waiting on the carrier.
How do I know what insurance will reimburse?
Before any treatment beyond a basic exam, the front desk reviews your plan and gives you a written estimate that shows the expected reimbursement based on the plan information available. The actual reimbursement is determined by your insurer when they process the claim, so the estimate is a good-faith approximation, not a guarantee.
What if I do not have insurance?
You can still be seen. You receive a written estimate before treatment, and standard payment options are accepted, including CareCredit for larger treatment plans.
Do you accept HSA or FSA cards?
Yes, HSA and FSA cards can be used for eligible dental expenses. They are accepted directly at checkout with no special paperwork on your end.
What about Delta Dental, MetLife, Cigna, or Aetna?
We submit claims to most carriers, including Delta Dental, MetLife, Cigna, Aetna, and others, as a courtesy. Medicaid and Fidelis are the exceptions. Whether a plan reimburses well depends on your specific policy, not on the company name. Call the office with your plan details for a realistic estimate.
How does CareCredit work?
CareCredit is a third-party healthcare credit card. It can spread the cost of a larger treatment plan across monthly payments. Approval, interest rates, and any promotional financing terms are set by CareCredit; those terms may include deferred interest that accrues from the purchase date if the promotional balance is not paid in full by the deadline. Read the current terms on CareCredit's website before applying.
