Care that holds across decades.

When the same practice has been seeing your family since 1979, the conversation about your teeth picks up where it left off, every visit, every generation.

Three generations, same chair

One familiar office for every stage

Children need patience. Adults need clarity. Seniors need continuity.

Families need a practice that knows the people behind the appointments.

From first visits

Early visits are mostly about getting comfortable, short, gentle, and built around what each child is ready for. Very young patients with complex needs are referred to a trusted pediatric specialist when that is the right call.

Teens and orthodontic timing

We monitor adult teeth coming in, refer to an orthodontist when alignment work is needed, and stay involved on the dental side throughout treatment.

Adults, the long-term file

Most of our adult patients have been with the practice for years. We know your history, your fillings, your sensitivities, your preferences. That continuity catches small problems early.

Older adults, careful maintenance

Existing restorations need watching. Medications change saliva and decay risk. We adjust care to match what your mouth actually needs at this stage, not what a generic protocol prescribes.

What family care includes

The full spectrum, in one office.

Six common categories of care that families come to us for. Every member of your household gets the same plain-language explanations and the same conservative approach.

First dental visits

Comfortable early visits for children, paced to what they are ready for.

Cleanings and exams

Twice-yearly cleanings with the hygienists (Amber, Tracey, Robin, or Emma) plus a brief exam with the doctor.

Sealants and preventive guidance

Sealants for kids and teens, and practical home-care guidance for adults.

Fillings and restorative care

Fillings, crowns, and rebuilds when prevention is not enough, sequenced at your pace.

Cosmetic conversations when requested

Whitening, bonding, and refinement, discussed only when a patient asks about them.

Long-term maintenance for adults and seniors

Watching existing restorations, adjusting care as medications and dry-mouth risk change.

Family scheduling

Stacking family appointments without making it a project.

When you call, the front desk can often book multiple family members into the same visit window, so you are in and out together, not making three trips.

  1. 1

    Call and tell us who

Whether it is one person or four, the front desk will check the schedule and find a slot that works for everyone.

  2. 2

    Stacked or staggered

Some families prefer everyone at once; others prefer staggered times so kids are not waiting. Either way works.

  3. 3

    One office, many records

We keep each family member's record separate but linked so coordination, insurance billing, and scheduling stay clean.

Common questions

Practical answers for the household.

When should my child have a first dental visit?
The right time to start varies. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends an early visit by age 1, but in practice many children do best starting a bit later, once they are more comfortable sitting in a chair and following short instructions. For very young children, especially under age 4, a pediatric dentist is often the better first stop. Dunning sees patients from first visits onward and handles routine care, sealants, and small restorations for younger patients in-house. Call 518-842-3220 and the front desk will help you decide whether starting with Dunning or with a pediatric specialist makes more sense.
Do you treat patients of all ages, or do I need a pediatric specialist?
Dunning is a family practice, which means seeing patients from their first visits forward alongside their parents and grandparents. For routine preventive care, sealants, and small fillings, the practice handles most situations. For very young children, extensive treatment under sedation, or complex pediatric needs, we refer to a trusted local pediatric dentist who is better equipped for those situations.
Can my whole family come in on the same day?
Often, yes. Call and tell us who is coming. Sara, Kasey, Francine, or Maggie will find a window. Some families like everyone at once; others stagger so the kids are not waiting. Both work.
Do you bill each family member separately or as a household?
Each family member is billed for the work they receive; claims are submitted on each patient's behalf, and reimbursement checks come back individually. A single CareCredit account can cover treatment for multiple family members if that is helpful. The full insurance posture lives on the insurance and payment page.
My parent is older and finds dental visits difficult. How do you handle that?
We slow down. Visits are paced to what the patient can tolerate, broken into multiple appointments if needed, and explained at each step. If a particular treatment is causing more stress than benefit, we say so, and we look at alternatives, including doing less.
We just moved to Johnstown. How do we transfer records?
Call us, tell us your prior dentist's name, and the front desk will request your records on your behalf. Most offices send them within a week. You do not need them in hand to schedule a first visit. Bring whatever you have.

One practice, every generation.

Most of our families came to Dunning because someone they trust told them to. The first call is just to introduce yourselves and find a time.
